Inspire Psychiatric is a leading psychiatric and mental health clinic in Carlsbad, California, proudly serving patients throughout North County San Diego. Our team of board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners (PMHNPs) provides comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, medication management, Spravato® (esketamine) treatment, and evidence-based mental health care for adolescents, adults, and older adults. We specialize in treating depression, anxiety disorders, ADHD, bipolar disorder, PTSD, OCD, eating disorders, substance use disorders, and many other mental health conditions through compassionate, individualized care.
During your comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, your psychiatric provider will complete an in-depth mental health assessment, review your medical history, discuss previous psychiatric treatment, evaluate symptoms, and develop an individualized psychiatric treatment plan tailored to your specific needs.
Your initial visit will take approximately 50-75 minutes. During this time, we will discuss your medical history, including symptoms, previous treatments, and medications. Together, we will establish your goals and create a personalized treatment plan.
Once your first appointment is scheduled, we will send you new patient forms via email. Please complete and return these forms at least 48 hours before your appointment to ensure your provider has adequate time to review them. We may also request prior psychiatric records to be reviewed by your provider prior to your visit.
Follow-up visits will be shorter, typically lasting around 20-25 minutes.

Medication management is one of the core services offered at Inspire Psychiatric. Our psychiatric providers carefully evaluate each patient's symptoms, diagnosis, medical history, and treatment goals to determine whether psychiatric medications may be beneficial.
Inspire Psychiatric provides evidence-based treatment for a wide variety of mental health conditions through psychiatric medication management, supportive psychotherapy, lifestyle interventions, and collaborative care with therapists and primary care providers.
Psychiatric conditions often have an underlying biological basis, and medications can play a crucial role in managing symptoms alongside therapy and alternative approaches. Our practice takes a conservative approach when prescribing controlled medications, such as benzodiazepines and stimulants. While we recognize the importance of these medications for some individuals, we prioritize using evidence-based research in our care.
For example, research has shown that long-term benzodiazepine use can lead to decreased cognitive abilities. Therefore, we strive to explore alternative treatments to ensure your long-term health is prioritized alongside managing your current symptoms.
Medication adjustments will only be made during scheduled appointments. If you experience side effects from a recently prescribed medication, please contact us promptly so we can address your concerns appropriately.

At Inspire Psychiatric, we are committed to providing safe, ethical, and evidence-based psychiatric medication management. When prescribing controlled medications, including stimulants, benzodiazepines, and certain medications used to treat opioid use disorder, we follow all applicable federal and California regulations, as well as current clinical best practices.
As part of our commitment to patient safety, our providers utilize California's Controlled Substance Utilization Review and Evaluation System (CURES), the state's Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP). CURES allows healthcare providers to review a patient's controlled substance prescription history to promote safe prescribing, reduce the risk of medication misuse or diversion, and help identify potentially harmful medication interactions.
California law requires healthcare providers to review the CURES database before prescribing a controlled medication and at specified intervals throughout treatment. This process is an important part of ensuring responsible prescribing and providing the highest quality psychiatric care.
In addition, patients who are prescribed a controlled medication, or who may be prescribed one as part of their treatment plan, are required to complete an in-person evaluation at least once every 12 months, in accordance with applicable federal and state regulations. When clinically appropriate, follow-up appointments between these annual visits may be conducted through our secure telehealth platform.
If you have questions about controlled medications, our prescribing policies, or whether these requirements apply to your care, our team is happy to discuss them with you.
